Visit our new Wundersocks Store in St. Johann in Tirol! Our Stores

The Rocky Mountains in Canada are famous for its glacial lakes with turquoise water. Not so much in April. While landing the plane, our Air Canada Captain greeted us with "Welcome to North Pole". It foreshadowed that we are heading into deep winter in Canada.

First night at Lake Louise Fairmont Hotel
Shortly after arrival, we decided to go out to explore the famous lake behind the hotel. To our surprise, it was all frozen and covered in snow. That initial shock was short lived as we were quickly taken by the mysterious and tranquil side of this winter wonderland.

Lake Louise

The town of Lake Louise is about a 10min drive from the actual lake. We visited some of the local stores and had dinner at the Lake Louise Railway Station & Restaurant

Icefields Parkway

Before getting on the famous Icefields Parkway, we stopped by the Lake Louise Visitor Centre to get recommendations for hiking trails along the parkway. The guide informed us, that during Winter season a lot of the trails are closed or can only be reached by snowshoes. We decided to visit one of the local ski rental shops to rent out poles and snowshoes (about $20 per day).

The Icefields Parkway is considered as one of the world's most stunning roadways. Along the way to Jasper, we made a couple of stops to checkout the frozen lakes and some of the more or less accessible vista points. During this season, most of the scenery is hidden behind tall piles of snow. We had to park and get out of the car to see whats was really going on.

Maligne Canyon

We started the day off with hiking the Maligne Canyon trail. This canyon is absolutely gorgeous. We didn’t want to rent out any additional gears (ice cleats) - so we just went down the Canyon with our snowshoes. This was great, but there were some areas we couldn’t go through because of our snowshoes beeing to big to nimble around some of its narrow, icy patches. To experience some of the thick ice, you have to hike all the way down. The entrance at the bottom is not marked, you have to look for openings along the fence. There are a couple of those along the way. After taking some photos we made our way back up. The whole hike was about 2 hours long.

Banff

The last stop on our trip was the beautiful town of Banff. After checking in at the Fairmont Banff Springs‎, we headed down to the town and visited some of the local stores. Banff is also famous for its Upper Hot Springs. After a long hiking or skiing day, this is THE place to ease your sore muscles in natural hot springs water.

MM Socks

MM Socks were designed by Sport Mayrl, a family-owned business in the South Tyrol region of the Italian Alps. Located in the heart of the Alps, where you’ll find both locals and outdoor experts, we spent 30 years looking into this area. Based on our experience, numerous tests and trials, we developed these socks, which truly live up to their name – "WunderSocks". See our Socks Collection
